Nelson Mandela Dies on 5 December 2013

Nelson Mandela died at his Houghton home in Johannesburg on the 5th of December 2013 at 20h50. His passing an unprecedented global event.

Today is the first day after his passing and as I drive through the streets of the black townships in Port Elizabeth I find no signs of the negative predictions that were to follow his death. There is only a peaceful sense of loss as if the great loving spirit of Madiba has descended upon the land. His consoling presence is evident in the lives of many.

His death however will have a profound impact on our nations identity.

We are now on our own.
