A packed attendance for round 6 of the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series – Season XI welcomed in the first race of the new year with 533 entries further boosting the Series as Africa’s largest family beach event.

The most popular of the 6 races contested on the morning was the 2km Ocean Swim with 140 entries, followed by the 1km Ocean Swim with 116 entries and the Kids 1km Beach Run with 106 entries.

The races took place in near perfect conditions with a very flat and warm ocean. Dylan Smith (36min:08sec) won the 3km Ocean Swim with Wayne Jones (37:07) and Merrick Fairall (38:46) placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the 3km Ladies Swim it was Rebecca Newman (42:48) from Brigitte Melly (44:42) and Delwen Henderson (45:06).

Top 3 in the 2km Ocean Swim for the Men were Daniel Jones (24:52); 2 Josh McGrath (27:40) and 3 Jarryd Cooke (29:03); whilst in the ladies it was 1 Antonelle Saporta (29:29); 2 Liza Kingston (30:06) and 3 Denise Bosman (30:34);

In the 1km Ocean Swim Mens it was 1 Ian Venter (12:16); 2 Seth De Swardt (12:26); 3 Joshua Bellairs (13:02); whilst in the ladies it was 1 Kirsten Marriott (13:20); 2 Amy Mardon (14:23); 3 Natalie Ogden (16:24);

5km Beach Run Men saw 1 Dylan Finlay (14:23); 2 Njabulo Khumalo (15:44); 3 Samkelo Tetyana (16:53); whilst in the ladies 1 Tara Sacke (20:53); 2 Sanet Owen (23:10); 3 Lindi Van Tonder (24:41);

5km Beach Walk Men’s results were 1 Grobbie Grobler (30:12); 2 Juan Slabbert (31:24); 3 Andrew Armstrong (34:33); and ladies 1 Maritza Craig (32:01); 2 Belinda Niemand (32:14); 3 Emily Stemmett (32:48);
